Cure and recovery

Question: Dearest Dr Luc: I recently viewed the trailer for the upcoming
film about autism that you are involved with. I am very excited about this
project and hope that it comes to fruition sooner than later as it is a
very important subject matter for all of us. My question is in reference
to the mother's statement that her son was 'much better' and that she
hopes for 'cure'. Surely, this mother has done a remarkable job in
searching for the best way to help her son. I am very happy that she
didn't give up or she would never have tried homeopathy. But i can't help
but think that when she began her journey with homeopathy the son had no
eye contact,
wouldn't speak and didn't read, etc. No emotional connections whatsoever
(delusions of fancy illusions). After some time with homeopathy the son
was speaking, connecting and reading. It's quite understandable that the
mother hopes for a cure versus 'great improvement' because now with the
critical issues resolved she is still left with a child that is outside of
the 'box' and so my question is this - What are the parameters of a
realistic expectation for 'cure' when undertaking a autisism case. First,
i understand that each case is individual and having been in this
situation myself with my son i am now asking not as the mother but as the
homeopath of SNC. My love to you and your work always,

Dear Bien
Thank you for an excellent question. Indeed the boy has progressed greatly
and still more since the filming of the trailer. I think it is the right
of any mother to expect a "complete cure," whatever that means for each
individual case. I will write elaborately about all this in my new book
about autism. Myself, I never give up and believe I cannot, till I have
reached the greatest progress and potential in each child with autism,
which is not different what we expect from ourselves and our "normal"
children. Obviously not every adult has all the qualities of others, is
supersmaret, gifted in this or that (call it neurodiversity) so each child
does grow up to a different adult as we know, seeking his or her best
place in society. But while reading everything about autism, all the
research done sofar, and writing everyday, I have found tremendous
sympathy and love for parents and children alike suffering from a
"diability," as many families suffer in its entirity from even when one
child is affected. I continuously think about these children's future,
with changes happening in health policies. Are we going to enforce a
strict model of treatment on these children as has happened to other
"disabilities" with their protocol? Who profits from these protocols which
always rather address one part of the condition and never the totality?
Will parents have a choice in treatment or will they be forced to follow
the protocol for fear of being punished legally? These are grave concerns.
In my book I will also clearly describe what it means "when a cure or
recovery takes place." Each case is different obviously and sometimes we
forget that these children are living beings, I even dare to say, more
sensitive and feeling than "regular" children, so they ARE affected by
circumsrtances around them as well as by acute diseases. I am moved by
stories of adult autistics who describe their struggle of being considered
"retarded", strange and aloof, "without any feelings." Nothing is further
from the truth. Temper tantrums are often the result of frustration, of
not being understood and not being able to communicate. A safe environment
geared at healing has to be in place, besides giving the right remedy,
something i also will discuss in my book. All this seems logical, but
because it seems logical, it is therefore not translated in reality in our
society. I love the hypervigilant moms who watch over their children, what
happens in school, how is the therapist, etc. I encourage every parent to
work with professionals that truly believe in full recovery, because they
understand when a true cure takes place and they will do their 100% best
and not just going through the motions. In summary, there is no more joy
for me, when I see such child, coming to me with a big smile, saying, "Dr
Luc!" with love in theior eyes that melt my heart. My heart is captured by
the love of such child, as it is pure and unconditionnal. To all moms,
never give up, don't settle for 50%, but you being the rock on which such
child can lean, makes you the best physician around!

I have learned so much from these children, forgiveness, love, empathy,
and this is just one of the gifts they have given us!

With much love to you all
Dr luc
