Post Partum Depression

Question:
What remedies are best choices for post
partum depression?

Particularly for heavy night sweats, fatigue due to lack of sleep, unfounded
fear of danger for the new baby's well-being and other family members, sore
breast feeding and the general stress in the family with the birth of a new
baby?

Thank you for sharing your wisdom as a master Homeopath (and a father of 5).

Answer:
There are several remedies that are outstanding but two of them have
a special place and need to be compared to each other when it comes to
depression.

The first one is the most well known and is Sepia:
"The person usually had already Sepia symptoms in pregnancy with strong
pregnancy vomiting or pregnancy needed IVF
or other hormonal support...then
it can be the long and hard labor for delivery. The patient ends up in an
exhaustive state on every plane. Physically, with a feeling of heaviness in
lower limbs, fatigue upon awaking in morning, does not want start the
day. Mentally: does not want to be bothered with mental efforts...reading,
writing, etc. Emotionally it takes a great toll: indifference to everything
and everyone, especially to those she loves the most (family and newborn);
indifference to things she usually loves doing; anger and irritability if
disturbed and impatient.A very hard situation for everyone.

Cocculus is another REMEDY AND IS LINKED TO GRIEF AND LACK OF SLEEP
TOGETHER. Usually GRIEF IS RELATED TO NIGHT WATCHING
(MAYBE THE PREGNANT MOM HAS AN ASD CHILD THAT WAKES UP SEVERAL TIMES AT NIGHT AND COUPLE THAT TO THE GRIEF SUCH MOM EXPERIENCES FOR HAVING A CHALLENGED CHILD IN THE FIRST PLACE. Or the pregnant mom is visiting a sick relative in the hospital for a long period of time. The Cocculus person always attend to others and neglect her own needs running herself to the ground eventually where all her sensory senses become dull. But there is no indifference and a lot less anger in this person. Their sense of responsibility is too great and till last moment they will do anything for their family or friend in need. It is often an overlooked remedy but when you see the combination of Grief and Lack of Sleep, think Cocculus.

For anticipation anxiety we have so many great remedies: Arg-nit is one of
them, the great Phobia remedy, the "What if this or that will happen? " Very
restless and hurried remedy. But constitutions like Phosphorus and Calc
-
carbs will have the most fears and Fear that something will happen.

Homeopathy has so many of these outstanding remedies without getting the
patient hooked to drugs for the rest of their life.

Warm regards
