A 272

Question: Understanding § 272 ? Dear Dr.Luc, Hahnemann has introduced the
waterysolution to minimize the dose, lesson aggravation and allow its
modification. However, in § 272 Organon 6th edition he writes, that 'a
globule, placed dry upon the tongue, is one of the smallest doses for a
moderate recent case of illness. Here but few nerves are touched by the
medicine. A similar globule, crushed with some sugar of milk and dissolved
in a good deal of water (§ 247) and stirred well before every
administration will produce a far more powerful medicine for the use of
several days. Every dose, no matter how minute, touches, on the contrary,
manynerves. Is this not contradictory ? How can the watery solution be a
far more powerful medicine than the globule and yet lessen aggravation ?

Answer: Thanks Katja for being such good satudent of the Organon an your
excellent question. Make sure always to pay attention to every word
Hahnemann says. He said here in this aphorism to only use this dry globule
in a MILD case, simply as he put it, because this way only a few nerve
endings (equal to the size of the pellet) will be affected, enough though
to cure the mild natural disease. However, this aphorism is more to tell
us to put the remedy in water as we can "manipulate" the dose and the
nerve endings affected much easier. What you did forget is that the pellet
is first dissolved in water, in other words in a bigger vessel (4 oz to 8
oz) which obviously dilute the strength of the remedy to start with...Only
from either the bottle or even furtther diluted from a first cup (which
again makes the remedy less strong to start with) advises he now to take a
certain amount to be put on the tongue, affecting more nerve endings to
make it stronmg enough for the moderate to severe natural disease yes, but
with a dose that is considerably less strong then the dry pellet. But with
these watery doses, a seen in the practice, it is a lot easier to adjust
the dose to each individual's case, to the strength of the patient's Vital
Force. That's why this 5th and 6th edition was calle a split dose, the 30C
potency is now a fraction each time of it when put in water.
