Flu Epidemic

Question:
Dear Dr Luc, I wanted to ask you for some clarification regarding your
advice on 'flu prophylaxis that appears on this blog. The few symptoms you
mentioned hardly seem 'flu like and with the current paranoia regarding 'flu
don't you think it is a little unwise to be offering this advice when these
rx might not have symptom similarity for all the people who are able to read this
advice. I imagine this advice can reach millions one way or another and it
doesn't appear to he Hahnemannian to be advising 3 rx when they might not
represent a genus epidemic or even individual symptoms. I hope you can offer more
insight on this.

Answer:
I actually hope that many people will read this latest
news about prophylaxis for the flu. As you might know, one of the usual
remedies we can give for the yearly flu prevention is Arsenicum 30C weekly
or Arsenicum 200C monthly from October till March. However, the present flu
in its first stage is exactly the Arsenicum picture with right sided sore
throat, strong fatigue, nose running, sneezing, thirst for cold water in
little sips but sore throat improving with warm drinks, in other words,
typically flu symptoms in my book. What happens with this present flu (and
it is going around also in Europe) is that it evolves quickly to blocked
painful sensation in the sinuses with green/yellow mucus and postnasal drip
(responding to Pulsatilla) and if not remedied by that time evolves to a dry
hacking cough from upper chest, with thirst for cold drinks, painful cough
>holding the chest,in other words Bryonia. As you see, a downward
progressing, changing the picture...Having seen many patients like this and
so have many of my students, early intervention with Arsenicum stopped this
progression immediately. And of course even better, for those who have not
had the flu, take the Arsenicum preventively. I am not sure how much symptom
similarity you want to prescribe according to A73, but I can assure you that
these prescriptions have been very effective. So when I advised 3 remedies,
it is not that these are given together or even sequential...they are only
given when the picture presents itself, and that is Hahnemaniann prescribing
in my books. Read cases of Hahnemann and von Boeninghausen and see how
skilfully they got the greatest epidemics under control! Here in the US I
have not seen people having "paranoia" about flu, but it is nice to know for
everyone to know what to do to prevent and to cure! I am always open to more
suggestion as how you would approach it!
